BRITISH CYCLING LAUNCHES CALL OUT FOR FUTURE FEMALE ENDURANCE SUPERSTARS

Are you a female born in the years 2009, 2010 or 2011? Then British Cycling has an opportunity for you!

British Cycling is looking for the next crop of talented female track cyclists to take to the boards and continue our proud track record of international success at the Olympic Games, following in the footsteps of Dame Laura Kenny, Katie Archibald and Elinor Barker. If you enjoy sports that are fast, exciting and tactical, British Cycling wants you!

The Talent ID Initiative will be launching in April 2024 in a bid to identify the next potential of talented young athletes, with those successful going on to join British Cycling’s Talent Development and Performance Pathways.

If you believe you have what it takes, the first step is to sign up on the form here before Friday 26th April and you may be invited to one of our three testing days at velodromes and testing facilities throughout May.

•    Manchester – Sunday 19th May 2024
•    London – Sunday 26th May 2024
•    Nottingham – Monday 27th May 2024

To apply, you must be born in the years 2009, 2010 or 2011, be eligible for a British passport and not currently in the sport of cycling as part of a club or team.

Joe Malik, Head of Talent Development Pathways for British Cycling said:

"We know that females in our sport are underrepresented compared to males and our latest talent identification programme provides an opportunity for girls from other sports, other cycling disciplines or communities to come along and try out cycling for the first time.  Our hope is that this will support new riders into our clubs and talent pathway, and in the future identify riders who will go on and represent Great Britain at the highest level.

What it involves?

One of the testing days will typically include three parts with the first being some physical testing on Wattbikes. This is the chance for you to show us what you can do! The day will also include a bleep test, for athletes to show endurance potential off the bike and support around how to either get into the sport of cycling or ask any further questions you may have.

So, if you want to have chance at being the next Olympic female track cyclist, now is your time to sign up and see if you’ve got what it takes.

Application closes at 11:59pm on Friday 26th April 2024
