The Velodrome Arena will close from Monday 24th January until October* 2022.
14 December 2021
As you'll be aware, Manchester City Council is undertaking a programme of refurbishment of the Velodrome Arena and concourse in order to modernise the facility and to enable it to continue to meet the needs of the commuity and elite track cycling programme for the next 20 years.
Due to the comprehensive extent of the work planned, it will be necessary to close the Velodrome Arena from end of day on Sunday 23rd January 2022 until October* 2022.
The track and track centre will be affected by this closure, as will the meeting rooms on the velodrome side of the building. The Velopark Cafe will remai closed as options for a new location are finalised. There will be a selection of food and drink served from reception with seating availale in the foyer.
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR YOU?
Activities on the Velodrome track will continue as normal until the end of day on Sunday 23rd January 2022. Temporary spectator seating is availble on the sports court.
BMX activity will continue to be avaliable as normal throughout the duration of the refurbishment project. Sessions can be booked as normal through the Better UK app or online.
During the closure period we will be running Zwift sessions online and also in centre using our Watt Bikes. Information about these sessions and how to book them will be posted onto the website here and also on our social media accounts so please like us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter to stay up to date.
If you rent a bike storage hook at the centre, please can you make arrangements to take your bike away with you on or before Sunday 23rd January 2022 as we're unable to store bikes during the refurbishment period. We'll automatically extend your 12 month rental agreement by the length of the closure period.
We'd like to take this opportunity to thank you for your patience and support during the closure period. We're confident that any short term inconvenience will be offset by the investment which will not only vastly upgrade the Velodrome building and concourse, but introduce a range of new sustainable technologies designed to reduce carbon emissions and provide a more modern and efficient buliding in the long term.
