Happy Pride Month

This June, we’re celebrating the voices, spaces, and communities that help make the world more inclusive, vibrant, and connected.

We’re proud to shine a light on Northern Cocks Badminton Club, who meet at our centre every Thursday evening from 6–8 p.m. What started as a safe, beginner-friendly space for LGBTQ+ players has grown into a thriving community of around 100 members, united by fun, fairness, and friendship.

“Act with authenticity and determination. Have the confidence to stand up for yourself and for others. Change happens when we all come together and work for it.” – Peter Baines, Chairperson of Northern Cocks

Northern Cocks isn’t just about badminton, it’s about belonging. They don’t compete in leagues, prioritising inclusivity and social connection over competition. But for those who enjoy a challenge, their first open tournament at our centre offered just that — in a welcoming, supportive environment.

Their advice to other clubs? Be actively inclusive. Make it visible. Say it out loud. Show up for your members and challenge anything that doesn’t align with your values.

With support from local LGBTQ+ venue Bar Pop, Northern Cocks is reaching even more people and building a true community — both on and off the court. 🏸

Stories like theirs remind us how powerful it is to show up, speak out, and support one another.
