BMX for Kids
BMX for Kids
It's never too early to get the little ones introduced to this fantastic sport and get them on their way to being able to ride. We start our programmes from age 2 with our Balance Bike sessions.
Balance Bikes for ages 2 to 5 years
Our sessions are run by two members of the National Cycling Centre team who will deliver a coached session focussing on fun for your little one. The sessions can be adapted to each individual child’s needs making it easier or harder as required.
At the start of each session, the coach will ask if anyone is new and if necessary advise that the parent/guardian stays on the flat area with their child until their confidence has grown. All parents/guardians are encouraged to help their child if they need it.
Mini BMXer for ages 3 & 4
Mini BMXer allows those 3 & 4 year olds who can now ride a pedal bike to experience our BMX track.
The session will have lower numbers ensuring your young rider has an enjoyable introduction to BMX. With skills starting on the flat and moving onto the track, riders will work on their basic cycling and BMX skills along with fun games and exercises that work on their fundamental movements. Session will involve parent participation, but not to the same extent as Balance Bikes.
Riders will not have access to the Start Hill within this session, but there will be an opportunity to get signed off for them to access Mini BMX Racer.
Mini BMX Racer for ages 3 & 4
Mini BMX Racer allows those 3 & 4 year olds who can now ride a pedal bike to experience our BMX track. Having riders start on the track, going over the basics of pumping. Slowly progressing riders from pumping then over to the start hill. This will include riders going from a certain height on the hill but at a controlled speed. Once assessed by the coach the riders will then be allowed to progress higher and eventually work towards doing the gates.
Access BMX for ages 7+
Access BMX is our inclusive session for both physical and learning disabilities and SEND, which uses BMX, mountain bikes & some adapted bikes such as hand bikes and trikes. The session is laid back and fun and uses the sprint straight for a warm up (flat area) before going on to the 3rd/4th straight of the BMX track should the riders wish to do so. The adapted bikes can also be used on this part of the BMX track.
The session includes bike, full face helmet, pads and gloves, all of which must be worn. The session is run by 2 qualified BMX coaches.
