CP Sport and WheelPower Limitless Engagement Day brings families together through inclusive cycling

Young people with cerebral palsy, wheelchair users and their families came together on Sunday for the CP Sport and WheelPower Limitless Engagement Day, celebrating inclusive cycling and the opportunities available to riders of all abilities.
The event brought together families from across the country, with participants travelling from as far as Manchester and Essex. Riders were able to experience a wide range of cycling activities, including track cycling, trikes, handcycles, BMX, tandem and social riding.

With the support of GLL, British Cycling, CP Sport, Scottish Cycling, Ice Trikes and the wider delivery team, participants were able to try adapted equipment, build confidence and explore cycling as both a recreational and competitive sport.

Bringing families and riders together

A key part of the day was creating an environment where young people and their families could take part together.
For some young riders, it was the first time they had met another person with cerebral palsy or a family with similar experiences. The opportunity to connect with others helped create a greater sense of community and showed participants that they were not alone in their experiences.
The event also welcomed participants with a range of additional disabilities and conditions, including autism, epilepsy, ataxia, Type 1 diabetes and right-sided hemiplegia.

One family summed up the experience:
“We enjoyed every aspect of the day, but involving all the family without barriers was exceptional. Every member of staff went above and beyond.”
A day of achievements and new opportunities

There were plenty of highlights throughout the day. Eddie completed an impressive flying lap in just 21 seconds, attracting the attention of the British Cycling Talent ID team and highlighting a potential pathway into competitive cycling.
It was also fantastic to see young riders enjoying the Ice Trikes, including some impressive wheelies on the Centre Court, while families encouraged and supported each other throughout the day.
Family members were also encouraged to try the bikes and activities themselves, allowing everyone to share the experience and enjoy cycling together.

Positive feedback from families

Feedback from participants and families was very positive, with particular praise for the welcoming atmosphere, variety of adapted equipment, supportive staff and opportunity to take part alongside family members.
The day demonstrated the impact that inclusive cycling can have beyond physical activity. It gave young people the chance to develop confidence, discover new sporting opportunities, meet others with shared experiences and build connections with the wider cycling community.

The CP Sport and WheelPower Limitless Engagement Day was a fantastic celebration of what can be achieved when barriers to participation are removed, providing young riders and their families with the opportunity to discover where their cycling journey could take them next.
