Inclusive Cycling Engagement Day Empowers Visually Impaired Riders

On 28 February 2026, an Inclusive Cycling Engagement Day was delivered at the National Cycling Centre in partnership with British Cycling Limitless, BC Community, BC Cluster, the Great Britain Cycling Team (GBCT) and GLL coaches, supporting the work of VICTA in empowering children and young people who are visually impaired or blind.
The event welcomed 16 riders aged 10–29, alongside their families, for a day focused on building confidence, developing skills and enjoying the freedom of cycling. Parents were encouraged to take part, and many rode alongside their children, helping to create a supportive, family-centred and fully inclusive environment.

Thank you to our coaches, pilots and partners:

  • British Cycling Limitless: Lyndsey Holland
  • National Cycling Centre Coach: Bob Barber
  • British Cycling Centre Coaches: Andy Aikers, John Wych, Eve Oldale, Claire Newton, Rebecca Jones
  • GBCT MTB Coach: Jack Humfries
  • Pilots: BC Cluster pilots and Brian Byland

A special thank you also goes to the National Cycling Centre staff, whose support behind the scenes helped make the day possible. 💙

Participant Feedback

Participants described the day as “fantastic,” “10/10,” and “very freeing,” while parents praised the encouragement and professionalism of the coaches and pilots.

“One of the best events he has been to… The support and encouragement was phenomenal.”

The event demonstrates the power of inclusive sport, giving young visually impaired people the chance to build confidence, independence and enjoyment through cycling. 💙
